Lesson of the Day: Emergent Reading

Today was a fun-filled learning experience. We learned about emergent reading, integrating reading into culture and technology, and strategies that help students with their reading comprehension and fluency. It was great to learn about these topics, because as future educators it is important that we know several strategies to help our students with reading.
At one point of the Dr. Rivera's lecture, she was talking about dramatic play and asked for volunteers. I was nervous when I volunteered myself, because I thought to myself, "Oh man, I just I forgot what I learned in my fine arts class". When Rhea and me tried to reenact our play from our previous class, I brain-farted; I forgot my lines and how to act. Looking back, creating our play was fun and it was hard-work. I am glad Dr. Rivera is giving us a second chance to reenact our play, because we did an awesome play and I do not want to mess it up.
Overall, today was an exciting day for learning. I learned a lot and I am excited to become a teacher, because I want to implement the strategies in my classroom. I am also looking forward to our next class session, because Rhea and I get to reenact a scene from our play. Have a safe and fun weekend everyone!

  1. Hey Angela, I totally agree with you! Once I start teaching I also want to try the different approaches to help my students in reading and see what works for them. There are so many fun activities that I think the students will enjoy and it will also benefit them in the future. Your scene with Rhea was entertaining and hopefully we can see you guys perform part two when we get back!

  2. Hi Angela, thank you being so brave and re-enacting your play from last semester! It was very interesting to see you as a bully since you are such a sweet person! But that is the joy of dramatic play, you get to stretch out your imagination! It is also a very useful tool in measuring reading comprehension! Thank you once again for sharing with us, and I am looking forward to part two of your act!
