Approaches of Reading Instruction/RTI

Today's assigned reading material was very informative and insightful. I especially enjoyed reading about the different approaches of teaching students to read. Prior to this class, I was not aware of the many strategies and the complexity of teaching a child to read. I will definitely keep those strategies in mind for when I have a class of my own. Being an Early Childhood educator, I am certain I will be teaching the early part of reading and I know these approaches will come in handy in the very near future.

To be honest I was not quite familiar with RTI until this semester, but the assignment has gotten my feet wet on the subject and I am pretty sure it will not be the last time I hear or read about it.

  1. Hi Kelsey! RTI is usually discussed in Special Education courses, hence the reason why I know a little about it. However, it is important that we are all aware of the types of programs that are being implemented in the schools. Perhaps we should request for administrators or serving teachers to conduct workshops or presentations for UOG students about current practices in the schools. That would be very beneficial, don't you think?

  3. I agree with you Kels. I'm glad the reading material are pdf attachments in moodle, because I'm planning to print them out and make a resource binder for myself.
This semester was also my first time being introduced to RTI, and now i'm seeing it in all my classes. Which really helps because it either reaffirms what i already know or just adds on more information to the topic.

  4. Hey Kelsey, we are really partners. I did not know about the RTI program either but now that I know about it I am happy it is available to schools and the students. I was also happy to read up on some new tools we can use to help teach our students how to read. Since it is such an important skill we need to also keep ourselves familiar with new techniques we can introduce in the classroom to keep the topics fresh and fun.
