Vocabulary
In today's class session we discussed the different strategies of teaching vocabulary such as, word walls, class dictionaries, and also the different types of graphic organizers. I am happy that Dr. rivera mentioned the class dictionary, which is just a book version of the word wall, because I have personally utilized it when I was in elementary. It is really a great way to help students build and learn vocabulary words. I have never heard of a T-chart that was used for reading until Dr. Rivera had mentioned and explained what it was. It seems like an effective organizer for words, so that students would understand, not only the meaning of the word, but the similarities and differences there are with other words as well.
The classroom dictionary is a wonderful idea! It is such a great resource for students and they can feel like they had a hand in creating it. Getting students involved in their own learning is a great way to go to build motivation and interest.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of the T-chart either. I'm sure we've done some kind of compare and contrast chart in elementary. I think the only one I can remember is the venn diagram.
ReplyDeleteI think the class dictionary is a good idea too. I really think that these ideas will really help us in our future classes.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember using the t-chart in elementary school however I think it would be a good tool to use for brainstorming. It is a very effective tool to help map out similarities and differences. I strongly feel that I will also use this in my classroom since it is so effective!
ReplyDeleteHey Kelcey, I really liked the different strategies that Dr. Rivera mentioned in class today as well. There were some that I do not remember using in my elementary years as well, but now that we know them, we get the chance to apply them in our classroom.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure what the T-chart was either, but after Dr. Rivera explained what it was, I really found it interesting and it definitely sounds like an effective strategy!
