Technology tools

Today’s class focused on technology on how it has evolved throughout the years. We went over all the new devices that we have today, like the ipad, tablets, smart boards, etc. These tools help enhance learning, but are something that teachers should not rely on. We also went over devices like av-projectors, and Velcro books.  We hardly use these types of technology today, but they are still very effective.  We as teachers have to be prepared and familiar with both teaching students the manual way and also teaching them with technology. Remember we are the power in the classroom and we are there to share our knowledge. We also went over the different websites that teachers can benefit from, such as pbs.com and sharemylesson.com. These sites can help teachers with lesson plans and activities for students and it’s free of charge.

Amanda also shared her practicum lesson with us today. She read the story Waking Beauty, which is a parody of sleeping beauty. I bet the kids really enjoyed the story. I also liked her activity that she had the kids do. It helped me out and gave me ideas of what to do for my students when I do my practicum.

  1. HI Evin! I like how you mentioned teaching the students the manual way. I think I am more of a traditional person so I strongly feel that the manual way is the best way! With of course the integration of a little technology. However, it is always best to revert back in case some technological error occurs.

  2. I have to agree...I like the use of technology, but at the same time, I feel that sometimes it can be a distraction to traditional teaching. You don't have to use technology with each activity or lesson. Remember concrete materials work best with elementary students. Even so, we all know that technology can make lessons more fun and interesting so that's the biggest plus!

  3. Technology definitely has its pros and cons! But if we can teach students the traditional way and incorporate technology, they will be motivated in learning and be successful in the classroom. I liked how you pointed out that we, as teachers must be familiarize with teaching the manual way and with technology, because what if there was a problem with our technology tool during a lesson? That wouldn't be good. It is always best to teach both ways and have a plan B.
