In today’s moodle session, we read two articles. The
first one was on approaches for reading instruction. I thought this article was
very interesting and informative. It talked about the five essential components
of effective reading instruction, which are: phonemic awareness, phonics,
fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These are the main areas that students
have to be proficient in to become better readers and I think the activities
that go along with the instruction will make it easier and fun for the
students.
We also read up on Response To Intervention (RTI).
It’s a great program that can help support those students who are really having
trouble with reading and I think this approach is great for our island because
a lot of students in the schools are not where they need to be at, in terms of
reading skills, so this is something that can benefit them. I hope to try out these
new approaches when I start teaching so I can see what works best for me, and what
works best for my students as well.
Hi Evin! I thought the readings were very informative as well. I had no idea Guam had already established RTI in the schools, I think it is definitely necessary. I am sure we will all use the reading instruction strategies in each of our classrooms, they will definitely be useful.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try out these methods too. Its different when you read about a great method versus actually trying it out. I feel i learn better when i get to apply it. After I apply it, everything i read along with everything I've done just clicks better in my understanding.
ReplyDeleteHi Evin. These articles were very informative. I thought that they had helpful techniques that will be of great use in the classroom. As I mentioned in the moodle post this was my first time hearing of RTI so I am p-lease to know that there is such a program now that can assist students who are having difficulties in reading.
