Tongue Twisted
Honestly, I struggled a little bit with this mini lesson. Maybe I was thinking too hard. First of all I had no idea what to do the lesson on, so I decided to read what everyone else was doing their lesson on. I enjoyed the lessons I read, but they didn't really help. So I decided to use the common core as a guide. I focused on second grade reading foundational skills. I found this goal on word recognition:

Anyway, after I found that goal everything just fell into place for me. I decided to use tongue twisters to tie my lesson together. I think that children will find the tongue twisters fun, and they'll be reviewing themselves on prefixes and suffixes at the same time. Its like sneaking vegetables into a fruit smoothie :) [Haha genius.]

ReplyDeleteHi Amanda! I too had a bit of trouble deciding on what to teach. With word recognition, it is important to teach foundational skills so that students can use those skills to decode words unfamiliar to them. Using standards as a guide is a great way to understand what students need to know, even if it is not completely specific. I like your tongue twister lesson. It is definitely a fun way to teach reading. I am going to add your idea to my compilation of lesson ideas and activities :)
ReplyDeleteYes Amanda, this lesson was a bit of a tough one. I was not to sure what was wrong or correct. So I too read over our classmates own and did a little research to help me out. I think your lesson is smart. Matching it with a standard was a great idea. Your choice of a tongue twister is perfect. It is something fun you can do and can always be done over and over again because they are meant to be ongoing.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, I was having a hard time too coming up with a lesson plan, but yours seems very interesting and creative. I like how you related it to one of the common core standards, that way you know what needs to be done and how to do it.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda! I thought it was interesting how you incorporated a common core standard in your mini lesson. However, I thought it would be easier because you have guidelines to follow in order to reach your goal, and at least this mini lesson was good practice!
