Amanda's lesson

Tuesday

Today during Moodle session I read about different approaches in reading instruction in which the text describes different methods in targeting fluency, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, comprehension, and phonics. The second reading discussed RTI (Response to Intervention): what it is, who it requires, and why its being implemented, and its benefits.

I really enjoyed reading this material, because I think I need it for my future classroom. As an education student I learn about all these problems that are facing the education system and that I will encounter when I begin teaching. I think arming myself with knowledge on how to address these problems will only help me better educate myself and my students. It is important as an educator to always update yourself with new methods. This world of information is always changing, you need to be able to adapt. Learning is ongoing.

  1. Hi Amanda! A teacher's job is not only to teach, but to also learn. With that said, the education and training that we have gained so far is just the beginning of the wealth of knowledge we will continue to attain throughout our teaching careers. I truly value all the teachings and wisdom that have been imparted to me thus far. I also love learning from all of my peers for all of you have such great ideas and creativity!

  2. Hello Amanda! I agree with you when you say it is important to update yourself with new methods. What worked in the classroom ten years ago may not work in today's classroom simply because with time came great technology! I am so happy that the articles we have read so far will serve as resources to us now and in our future classroom.

  3. Amanda! I agree that teachers should always update themselves with new methods and strategies, especially if it is for the benefit of the students. Through my years schooling, I have encountered having teachers who never change or welcome new methods, which in my opinion effected me negatively. I am glad to see that you are aware and embracing new methods and information as the world continues to change and grow. You are becoming a wonderful teacher already!

  4. Hey Amanda, it is good to always be up to date with the latest methods for teaching, and to be able to take those new things and apply it in a positive way so that students can enjoy learning. Like Rachel said, we as teachers are teaching, but we are also learning as we go along. Knowledge is power and learning is ongoing!
