Special Needs/ Book Review

Today in class, we discussed our book review #1 and explained how it will impact student learning. I thought all the stories were great and I will definitely keep them in mind to use in my future class. We also discussed how to approach students with special needs and what strategies work best. Inclusion is a critical part when teaching and allowing all students to be a part of the mainstream classroom is very important. We went over accommodations and modifications and the possible training that teachers need to be well equipped in the classroom. Our role as a teacher is to facilitate and we have create an environment that students will feel comfortable in. Providing a print rich environment is one of the many things teachers can do to make the classroom more inviting. Learning about all the different strategies and approaches to include all students, especially students with special needs is something that I will definitely keep in mind, and hopefully in the future I will take more courses on special education to enhance my knowledge.

Congratulations everyone! We finished the book! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  1. HI Evin! Thank you for sharing your story with the class. Aesop's fables have always been favorites of mine. Even though the stories are short, they have great meaning. I know that I will use many of his fables in my classroom. Have a great weekend as well!

  2. the story you have discussed today is one of my all time favorite fables, I'm glad you chose it! I too hope that I will find time (and the funds) to take some special education courses to educate myself more on children with special needs and how to accommodate them.

  3. I really liked your book review and everyone else as well. They were so interesting. I really liked how we discussed the needs of SPED students as well as a teachers classroom management. It gives us a heads up on what else we need to prepare for.

  4. Evin thank you for sharing your story with us! I remember reading variations of that story while I was in elementary school. Dr. Rivera is right though, we can also apply the idea of the story to our lives in the present!

  6. Don't worry Evin, Im sure you will take extra classes...I'm sure we all. I'm glad we went over a little bit about including children with special needs. I still feel unprepared though. I think I will always feel that way until I actually go out into the school and gain some experience.
